My Story

I’m Sean, Owner & Operator of Metro Flora Landscaping

Opening a Landscaping company is the latest chapter in my story, however, my love of nature and passion to grow beautiful spaces started on my family acreage in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

I’ve been told my first steps were taken in the family vegetable garden, where we grew a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers to sell at our local Farmers Market. My childhood summers were spent almost entirely outdoors, between family camping trips to Vancouver Island and at home helping plant, grow, harvest, and sell the crops.

Since my first landscaping job I have continued my career in horticulture across Canada - including leading small landscaping crews, helping with interior landscaping in office buildings, working several seasons in a garden centre, and being a part-owner and operations manager for a commercial flower farm for 5 years.

After completing an Applied Biology Degree specializing in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of British Columbia I worked briefly as an Assistant Grower in a commercial greenhouse. Realizing commercial food production wasn’t for me, I worked as a Lead Urban Farmer, where I helped plant, grow, and harvest fresh produce for donation on rooftops throughout Vancouver.

My first landscaping job was in Montreal, under the guidance of a Master Gardener from Holland. I was part of a small crew that maintained large private estates along the Saint Lawrence River. Through first-hand experience I learned how to design landscapes in many styles and how to curate a growing space to achieve a desired feel throughout the seasons.

My story has several chapters so far, totalling nearly 20 years of horticultural experience across Canada.

So whether you’re looking to redesign your yard, incorporate urban farming & ecological practices, or hassle-free landscape maintenance, I have the experience and training to help you achieve your goal.
